It is programmed cell death, an energy-dependent, genetically controlled process that is triggered by specific signals and rids the body of weakened, unwanted or damaged cells.
Every day, about 5% of the body’s cells undergo apoptosis and new cells take their place. In the process of apoptosis, a cell disappears without a trace within 15-120 minutes. The genetic apparatus of multicellular organisms – animals, plants and fungi – contains a cell death program. This is a special program that under certain circumstances can lead a cell to death. In normal development, this program is aimed at removing excessively formed cells – “unemployed”, as well as cells – “pensioners” who have ceased to engage in socially useful work. Another important function of cell death is the removal of “disabled” and “dissident” cells with serious disturbances in the structure or function of the genetic apparatus. In particular, apoptosis is one of the main mechanisms of self-prevention ofbenign tumors,cystic formationsand cancer.
In case of pathological enhancement there are aplasias and degenerative processes, as well as some deformities with tissue defects, and in case of weakening – autoimmune processes, tumors and premature aging of the organism. There are, for example, serious enough reasons to believe that such dangerous diseases as aplastic anemia,rheumatoid arthritis, amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, Alzheimer’s disease, AIDS, etc. are associated with pathological enhancement of apoptosis.
During fasting, a universal process takes place: on the one hand, the physiological process of apoptosis is intensified: renewal and rejuvenation of the organism by killing old, diseased, altered cells. On the other hand, pathological mechanisms of apoptosis are eliminated: premature aging, cancer, etc.

It has become the most interesting development in biology and medicine in the last 50 years. According to modern concepts, apoptosis is a general biological mechanism responsible for the constancy of cell populations, as well as the formation and culling of defective cells. Regular diet and terrible ecology stand in the way of this physiological mechanism. According to our observations, activation of the process of nutritional apoptosis occurs after 20 hours of dry fasting (if the correct fasting technique is followed).
