Starvation is ineffective for weight loss, during the course of fasting extra pounds quickly go away, but just as quickly return when switching to the usual diet.
Of course, the doctors and nutritionists are right about something. The point is that after fasting, the body undergoes rapid recovery processes. Cells actively assimilate nutrients, and if at this time do not limit yourself in nutrition, your weight will quickly reach the former norm, and most likely exceed it by several kilograms. So if the goal is only weight loss and not a complete change in the behaviors that led you to obesity, starvation will not help you, rather it will increase your weight by a few pounds from your original weight. When I worked in a sanatorium on Baikal, Professor Y.S. Nikolaev came to us. Together with our doctors we asked him a question about starvation treatment of overweight patients, he told an interesting story from his practice and even showed slides.
“Once at the entrance to the clinic, my nanny met me and said, ‘There are fat people waiting for you, two brothers and their father have arrived.’ I thought it was three fat people. But when I entered the lobby, I saw two young men of incredible size, and behind their broad backs, a small, thin man.
“Well, good,” I thought, “so obesity is not hereditary, not genetically determined.
But alas, there was a third fat man after all.
“Their mother is very fat, so she gave birth to freaks,” said the little man, who looked at his elephant-like sons with some fear.
As it turned out, there was a fourth fat man, a grandmother. The trail was lost further on. T.’s brothers were really phenomenally thick: the elder, 22 years old, weighed 211 kilograms, the younger, 16 years old, weighed 174 kilograms. In order to weigh them, they had to use barn scales – medical scales could not withstand such a load. Both brothers had group II disability due to obesity. We worked on them for a long time. We conducted nine courses of unloading – dietary fractional therapy. As a result, the older brother lost 86 kilograms, and the younger – 70. On admission both were in a depressed state: they had increasing apathy, lethargy, dullness, headache, sometimes irritability. After treatment, all these symptoms disappeared and the young men became cheerful, mobile and sociable.
At present, the brothers follow a dietary regimen and do not gain weight. In these cases we apply the so-called “fractional” method of unloading-diet therapy: after the first fasting (10 – 15 days) the recovery of the same duration begins. Then the second fasting 10 – 30 days and the same duration of recovery; then the third course of fasting and so on up to 10 – 12 alternations of fasting and diet, with a break of 3 – 4 months after 6 – 8 fractional courses. The duration of each course is individualized and varies depending on the patient’s state of health, weight, age and other indicators. Such a pendulum-like cycle of fasting makes it possible to reduce body weight by 80 – 100 kilograms!
At the same time with weight loss, the cardiovascular activity of the treated patients improved significantly, blood pressure decreased to normal, dyspnea, arrhythmia disappeared, heart tones became audible. The correct menstrual cycle was restored in women, potency in men. Psychopathologic symptoms completely disappeared in patients with mental disorders. Subsequent observation of patients for up to 15 years showed that in case of compliance with the recommended dietary regimen, the weight of patients was stable at the level obtained as a result of treatment.
Even wet fasting, when properly applied and following all recommendations, gives excellent results in the treatment ofobesity, but dry fasting is many orders of magnitude more effective. It is known that adipose tissue easily deposits water, and this makes lipolysis difficult. Using the dry fasting technique has an anti-edema effect and thus accelerates lipolysis. For overweight people, dry fasting is the most effective way to lose weight. It is the best fat burner. The weight after it, although it increases again, but does not return to the previous level. Unlike numerous weight loss remedies, it costs nothing and most importantly, it is harmless. Carried more easily than numerous grueling starvation diets, which bring nothing but harm. Nutritionwith its own reservesis perfectly balanced. The body takes from the reserves only what it needs at the moment, not what it is artificially imposed from the outside.
What is the advantage of fasting over other weight loss methods:
● During fasting, rapid and safe weight loss occurs;
● A person can tolerate fasting much more easily because there is no constant feeling of hunger;
● There is no sagging or laxity of the skin and tissues during weight loss.
● Weight loss during fasting is accompanied by recovery of the body and improvement of general health (free breathing, increased ease of movement, disappear constant fatigue, reduced feeling of overflow in the abdominal cavity and symptoms of indigestion, lower blood pressure and general load on the heart).
Starvation helps to combat eating habits. And that is perhaps its main merit
